About Jess Rios
My philosophy of counseling is founded in a collaborative approach between the client, therapist, and the community of the client. I utilize and operate from the following theoretical orientations: Cognitive Behavioral, Person-Centered Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, and other creative techniques.
I believe that counselors should enter the room ready to listen and learn from each client, understanding their clients from a holistic perspective. A person is comprised of many cultures, beliefs, values, roles, past experiences, dreams, thought and behavioral patterns, and emotions, and are constantly changing. I believe it is a privilege and counselor responsibility to help each client understand themselves and their needs and empower each client to find healthy ways to meet their needs.
I believe that counseling is not just about healing but about equipping each client with self-autonomous strategies and helping them gain back control, hope, and resiliency. I do not shy away from incorporating creative therapeutic techniques a client feels comfortable exploring in order to tap into an area that will help the client better understand themselves, a part of their world, or an experience.
