I believe that humans are social beings and do not exist in a vacuum. Therefore, we are all products of the world around us from our family, our friends, our communities, to our race, gender, sexuality, and more. Because of this I take a holistic or systems perspective in looking at how my clients interact with the world around them and vice versa. So, what is your story? I believe we all hold stories or beliefs within ourselves that narrate the way we view ourselves and the world around us. In my approach to counseling, I seek to understand your unique story. I believe that you are the expert of your life. After all, who knows you better than you? I focus on utilizing my client’s strengths and resources in conjunction with the knowledge and skills I have gained to help my clients reach their goals. Together we work on creating a new narrative that is more reflective of the life you wish to live. To do this, I work to build a space of trust, openness, non-judgment, and understanding.
When working with couples I work to create an environment of safety, trust, and rapport with each partner. I focus on what rigorous research has discovered about what makes relationships last. I use these principles to guide my work in couples counseling.
When working with children and adolescents I focus on building rapport and trust so that I can best support and advocate for them. Parental/guardian involvement is crucial to meeting children/adolescents needs and goals, so I work alongside parents/guardians to help build understanding and implement necessary changes.
