About Elizabeth Cox
I am thrilled to begin my time at Oakwood Roots as practicum student, with Jeremy Dew as my supervisor. I am currently a graduate student at Sam Houston State University working on getting my master’s degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling and am seeking to become a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed professional counselor. I have interned at a substance abuse/PTSD facility for veterans for my group leadership practicum and aided in equine assisted-therapy. I grew up in Southern California but have lived in many states since then and travelled to various parts of the world for charity work. I settled in Texas in 2012 and have made Texas my home.
My focus is couples and families, but people from all walks of life are just as important to me. I believe in building a safe collaborative therapeutic alliance that allows for the exchange of life struggles with real life solutions and understanding. I believe healthy positive relationships have the power to heal. I have a passion for helping couples heal their relationships, but also for helping families in crisis that want to effectively separate themselves while minimizing the impact on the children. I believe that individuals carry all the resources they need for positive growth and development. Additionally, families are systems wherein everyone and everything impacts and is impacted by everyone and everything else.
