About Jocellyne Guerra
I am excited to begin my time at Oakwood as a practicum student, with Jeremy Dew as my supervisor. I am currently a graduate student at Sam Houston State University working on getting my Master’s degree in Counseling with a specialization in marriage, couples, and family therapy, and seeking to become a licensed professional counselor and a licensed marriage and family therapist.
My approach to counseling is one that is collaborative. My hope is to provide a safe and supportive environment, where individuals feel comfortable in being themselves and where they feel safe sharing their life stressors and their stories. To me, counseling is having somebody there to listen and support you, while we work together to explore what issues are affecting you and work to discover your strengths. I believe that finding your strengths can provide a sense of empowerment and encouragement in therapy. Together we will explore what is working for you, work through any history or current life stressors, and work to develop the skills that will help you with coping with what you are experiencing. My hope is that clients are able to develop a sense of self-awareness that they can use to gain a greater self-understanding.
