About Melina Cavazos
Welcome! My name is Melina Cavazos, and I’m currently an advanced doctoral student in the School Psychology program at Texas A&M University. I’m so happy to be part of the team at the Oakwood Collaborative for my practicum experience this year! Under the supervision of Dr. Erin Sandoval, LP, I am looking forward to working with you to help you add more “tools to your toolbox” per se so that you are empowered to reach your own personal goals. I like to take a collaborative approach to therapy, which means that we will be fully engaged in the therapeutic process, and that the outcome will be the product of our own efforts. Counseling is not easy – but in this safe and understanding environment, I am fully committed to taking this leap with you and will support you in your journey for lasting change.
Before coming to Oakwood Collaborative, I have been trained in and have provided counseling and psychoeducational assessment in a variety of community clinic and school settings around the College Station/Bryan area. I have had the honor to work with clients from various ages and backgrounds, and with varying difficulties. To best meet the needs of all my clients, I typically incorporate cognitive-behavioral, systems, and person-centered therapeutic approaches into my work, as well as highlight relaxation strategies (everyone, including myself, could use more of that!). Also, in alignment with my systems approach, I make it a best practice to also work with the parent(s)/guardian(s) of my child/adolescent cases, when appropriate. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to meeting with you!
