Dyslexia Therapy
Dyslexia Therapist vs. Dyslexia Specialist
A Dyslexia therapist is not the same as a Dyslexia tutor or a specialist. Therapists must complete a rigorous, accredited multisensory language training program that includes 200 hours of coursework, 700 hours of supervised clinical experience, and 10 demonstration lessons in multisensory structured language education.
After completing that training, the therapist candidate must pass the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) competency exam. The final step is to apply for the official Dyslexia Therapy License through the state of Texas. This license is only available to individuals holding a master’s degree. This means a Dyslexia therapist has undergone extensive formal training and hands-on work before becoming licensed.
About Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that affects the way people identify, read and process the letters, words or sounds they see or hear. It is a lifelong condition — but one that can be significantly helped with the right therapy.
While the challenges vary, the root cause is a difference in how the brain processes language. Some individuals experience severe challenges with reading and writing. Others may face milder issues, but all face a distinct way their brain handles language. Dyslexia is not caused by low intelligence, hearing or vision problems, or a lack of effort or motivation.
Individuals with dyslexia may face academic difficulties, but the impact often goes beyond school. Self-esteem, confidence and overall emotional well-being can all be negatively affected. For this reason it is important to seek professional help early from a qualified Dyslexia therapist. Early intervention gives the individual a much better chance to succeed academically and socially.
What Our Dyslexia Therapy Offers
At our practice, we provide customized dyslexia therapy designed to meet each individual’s unique language-processing profile. Our licensed Dyslexia therapists use evidence-based, multisensory structured language education techniques that engage the learner across visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways — helping to strengthen neural connections and improve reading, writing, spelling and comprehension skills. We begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand each client’s strengths, challenges and learning style. Then we build a personalized therapy plan:
- Multisensory reading instruction that links letter sounds, word recognition and spelling patterns
- Targeted writing and spelling practice that builds accuracy, fluency and confidence
- Language comprehension and expression tasks to improve reading for meaning, vocabulary growth and writing clarity
- Self-regulation and study-skill coaching to support the learner in applying their new skills in real-world settings
Why Choose Licensed Dyslexia Therapy?
Choosing a licensed Dyslexia therapist ensures that you are working with someone who has completed the full training and meets state licensing standards. This level of training and certification helps ensure that therapy is not just tutoring but a clinical process grounded in comprehensive language and literacy science. When you partner with a licensed therapist, you gain access to:
- Therapists who understand the full scope of dyslexia, its language-based root differences and its lifelong implications
- Strategies proven to reduce reading and spelling errors, increase reading speed, and improve overall literacy outcomes
- Support for not only the academic side of reading and writing but also the emotional side — helping clients rebuild confidence and self-trust
Who Can Benefit?
Our Dyslexia therapy services benefit children, adolescents and adults alike. Whether someone is newly diagnosed or has struggled for years, our licensed therapists meet the learner where they are, customizing support to the individual’s age, academic level and life goals. We also work closely with parents, guardians and educators, offering coaching and resources to help support progress at home and in the classroom.
