A trainee who begins at Oakwood during graduate school may later have opportunities to complete supervised experience and hours toward licensure, join the practice as a licensed clinician, develop areas of specialization, supervise or mentor newer professionals, and participate in continuing education, leadership, training, or other areas of professional development.

Our Mission

Oakwood Counseling provides comprehensive best-practice, research- based mental health services to individuals as young as two years old, with no upper age limit. Our services include the following: individual, group, family, and marriage therapy; psychological assessment (cognitive ability, academic achievement, learning disability, mood disorder, anxiety disorder, attention disorder; personality functioning); corporate consulting; disability determination evaluations; independent education evaluations.

As a training site, our goal is to offer our practicum and internship students and associates ongoing exposure to a diversity of cases, treatment modalities, and theoretical orientations. Our staff includes doctoral-level licensed psychologists and masters-level therapists (L.P.C.-S., L.P.C., and LPC-A). Training rotations are available in testing/assessment, play therapy, cognitive/behavioral therapy, marriage/family therapy, career counseling, and corporate training.

Training Opportunities at Oakwood

Practicum & Internship Experiences

Oakwood welcomes graduate students seeking practicum and internship experiences in counseling, psychology, social work, and related behavioral health disciplines.

Trainees may have opportunities to gain hands-on clinical experience while learning within an established multidisciplinary practice.

Supervised Experience Toward Licensure

For emerging clinicians working toward independent licensure, Oakwood may offer opportunities to gain supervised clinical experience and accrue eligible hours toward licensure, consistent with applicable Texas licensing requirements.

This may include opportunities for Associates to receive supervision from qualified supervisors while developing their clinical skills, confidence, and professional identity.

Post-Doctoral Training

Oakwood may offer post-doctoral experiences for psychology professionals seeking advanced clinical training, supervision, and professional development as they progress toward independent practice and licensure.

Clinical Supervision & Consultation

Quality supervision is an important part of professional development. Oakwood’s experienced clinicians provide opportunities for supervision, consultation, case discussion, and mentorship across stages of professional development.

Continuing Education & Professional Training

Learning doesn’t end with licensure. Oakwood is committed to ongoing professional development and may offer continuing education programs, workshops, clinical trainings, consultations, and other learning opportunities for mental health professionals.

Oakwood trainees have opportunities to learn within an established behavioral health practice alongside experienced psychologists, counselors, supervisors, and other mental health professionals. Our goal is to provide a training environment that is professional and academically sound while also being welcoming, collaborative, supportive, and human.
